Here Are The Major Risk Factors Of Acidity

Acidity is one of the most common conditions affecting many Indians. This state is characterized by heartburn felt around the lower chest area, which is produced by the stomach acid flowing back up into the food pipe. Very few people understand that unhealthy eating habits and poor lifestyle choices are the main reason for this condition.

The food we eat passes down the oesophagus into the stomach. The gastric glands present in the belly create acid which is necessary to digest the food and to kill any germs. Acidity hits when the gastric glands produce a large amount of acid, more than what is needed for the digestion process. This condition is identified by a burning sensation just above the stomach, or right below the breastbone (the hollow part).

Below are some of the risk factors for acid reflux disease:

  • Large meals or lying down immediately after a meal
  • Overweight or obese
  • Heavy meal and lying on your back or bending over at the waist
  • Snacking close to bedtime
  • Some beverages, such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee, or tea
  • Smoking
  • Pregnancy
  • Certain medications

There are many home remedies and Acidity Supplements, which are applicable to the treatment of this condition. However, if the condition continues you should see your doctor.
